Der Schlusspfiff war dann einem Coitus Interruptus ähnlich. Irgendwie hatte man mehr erwartet, irgendwie sollte noch was kommen. Die Leute waren unzufrieden, Einzelne auf der Gegentribüne begannen zu pfeifen und legten sich mit Zverotic an. Klar, niemand ist traurig, dass Zverotic zu YB geht. Sein Unvermögen ist ärgerlich. Wer aber die eigenen Spieler auspfeift, soll Schweizer Nati schauen gehen. Warscheinlich tun sie’ s auch.

Nun, es sind wohl die Ansprüche, die in den letzten Monaten schneller
angestiegen sind als das Können der Mannschaft. Andere würden an dieser Stelle vielleicht der Verletzungsmisere, dem Trainer, dem Pech die Schuld geben. Schlussendlich haben wir aber einfach unseren FCL wieder zurück. Passiert ist nichts schlimmes, aber vielleicht kommt die Demut wieder, die die Begeisterung und die besondere Atmosphäre neu entfachen kann. Ein Blick auf die Tabelle zeigt, das Spiel gegen Sion wird ein wichtiges. Luzern muss an einem Strick ziehen.

Baschi. The town transformed into an awkward conglomerate of pyro and Schlager
music. Hardly any chanting in the streets, more sober restraint. In the tram from
the ground back to the town, a bewildered Luzerner randomly asked other match
visitors about the score to find out why people are so sad. Basel are champions
(again), and it looked like Luzerner Seenachtsfest.

Admittedly, this is the moment when losers sulkily criticize the winner’ s attitude,
its arrogance and over saturation. When you can’ t compete on the pitch, you want
to claim moral superiority. And this is exactly how I felt yesterday night. We have
to admit, our team is shit. The club lies in tatters. The bond between fans and
management is cut.

But this has one advantage. Luzerner know how to celebrate. It’ s the losers
privilege to cherish rare success. I doubt that the Basler can experience the amount
of joy we get with every petty win against any provincial team. The wave of
intense communal happiness after the completely unexpected late winner in the cup
semifinal in Zurich in 2007. The cathartic feeling of relief after avoiding relegation
in the 2009 Barrage. The journey and game in Utrecht, our only European outing in
10 years, and what an unforgettable one it was… JUST CAN’ T BEAT THAT!

This is the reason why we don’ t want to change seats with anybody. This is the
reason why thousands still want to see our colours play every weekend. We have
been shit for the last 22 years with only minor spells of short-lived success. Yet, a
whole region keeps standing behind this team, hoping for another day of bliss to
come. This is why we love our club.
